Buying game currency: what to check first

Currency offers look interchangeable and are not. The differences are in delivery and region.

Delivery method changes everything

Currency is delivered in very different ways depending on the game: a direct transfer, an in-game trade you have to be present for, a marketplace listing you buy, or a code. The method determines how long it takes and what you need to do, so read it before you compare prices.

  • Direct transfer: fastest, but you may need to be online.
  • In-game trade: requires you and the seller to meet, so timezone matters.
  • Code or voucher: instant, but region-locked more often than not.

Region and platform locks

A currency offer priced below the rest of the market is frequently tied to a region or platform you are not on. Match the region and platform fields on the listing to your own account before anything else.

Compare price per unit, not per listing

Listings bundle different amounts, so headline prices are not comparable. Divide by the amount to get a per-unit figure, then compare. Category pages on E4U make this easier by showing the amount as a listing attribute.

Watch for limits inside the game itself

Some titles cap how much currency can be traded or received in a window. If the amount you are buying exceeds that, delivery arrives in parts — which is fine, as long as it is agreed in the order rather than discovered afterwards.

Frequently asked

Why do currency prices vary so much between sellers?
Mostly delivery method, region and amount. A region-locked or slower-delivery offer sits below a flexible instant one, and bundles of different sizes are not directly comparable until you work out the price per unit.
How fast is currency delivered?
It depends on the method stated on the listing. Automatic deliveries complete right after payment; trades that need both parties online depend on the delivery window the seller published.
